K9 Sentinel
New Milestones with release charts

Manual testing, organised.

K9 Sentinel keeps your manual test suites, every run and every result in one place. Write the scenarios in Gherkin, run them step by step, schedule the regular ones and see how each release is doing.

Features

Everything a manual tester needs, nothing they don't

From the first scenario to the release sign-off: suites, runs, schedules, milestones and the team that works on them.

Test suites in Gherkin

Write features and scenarios in plain Given / When / Then. Every step becomes a check the tester records a result for.

Step-by-step runs

Mark each step passed, failed or skipped, add a comment where it matters and finish the run as passed or failed.

Scheduled runners

Repeat a suite every week, month or year, or with any crontab. A new run waits for a tester and the team gets an e-mail.

Milestones

Plan releases with a start and an end date. Mark the current release and every new run is assigned to it automatically.

Results at a glance

Charts of the step results run by run, with the milestones drawn on the timeline, and the totals of passed and failed runs.

Projects and teams

Invite testers with a join code, give each member the roles they need and switch between your projects in one click.

How it works

Write it once, run it every release

1 · Write

Scenarios your whole team can read

A test suite is a Gherkin feature kept in K9 Sentinel. Product owners can read it, testers can follow it, and nobody has to hunt for the latest spreadsheet.

  • Feature, Scenario, Given / When / Then: the syntax you already know, in English or in your own language.
  • One suite, many runners: run the same suite for different purposes, each with its own tags.
  • Audit trail: who created and last changed every suite and runner, and when.
2 · Run

Start a run, or let the schedule start it

Start a runner when a build is ready, or schedule it. Scheduled runs wait as pending until a tester picks them up, and every Monday the team is reminded of the runs that are still open.

  • Weekly, monthly, yearly or a custom crontab, with the next runs shown before you save.
  • Assign runs to a tester, or let whoever records the first result take it on.
  • Keyboard first: P F S set a result and move to the next step, Ctrl+Enter finishes the run.
3 · Release

Follow every release with milestones

A milestone is a release with a start and an end date. Mark one as the current release and every run started from then on belongs to it, whether a tester or the schedule started it.

  • One current release per project: choosing a new one switches the previous one off.
  • Release charts: the step results of every run of the milestone, with the totals.
  • Milestones on the timeline: each runner chart marks where a release starts and ends.
Team

Bring the whole team in with a join code

Create a project and share its join code. Testers sign up, enter the code and start testing; the project admins decide who may run tests, edit suites or manage members.

  • Roles per project: RUNNERS for runs, FEATURES for test suites and USERS for the members.
  • Several projects per account, switched from the header.
  • A new code any time: the old one stops working at once.
Languages

Speaks your team's language

Every member picks the language of the interface for themselves. This page is available in the same languages.

Self-hosted

Your server, your data

K9 Sentinel runs on your own infrastructure: a Java application and a PostgreSQL database, started with Docker Compose behind your nginx. The schema is created on the first start.

Docker Compose

One stack for the application and its database.

PostgreSQL

Your results stay in a database you own and back up.

Your SMTP server

Run notifications, reminders and password resets.

Private by default

Only members of a project see its suites and runs.
